And What About Apps?

As mobile phone users worldwide continue to outpace Internet users, it is becoming increasingly important for the B2C and B2B industries to tailor more branding efforts towards mobile devices.

Mobile Websites are specifically created for Mobile Devices to quickly surf the internet utilizing a hand-held device i.e. SmartPhones, SuperPhones, Tablet etc. Mobile Websites are proven to be low cost yet high impact investment for your company’s new media strategies.

Instead of accepting the limitation with your existing website, or alternatively, creating a Mobile Customer App* (application software generally designed to operate mobile devices).

Popular Apps categories include:

  • Social Media – LinkedIn, Facebook
  • Music – iTunes
  • News – CBC, CNN
  • Gaming – Angry Birds, Call of Duty
  • Information – Ted Talks, AllRecipes
  • Email – Gmail, Hotmail

and so on…

An analogy to help our clients understand a Mobile Website… Just think of your main site like a BBR (Big Box Retailer – Superstore, Costco, Home Depot etc) and your Mobile Website as a local convenience store (7-11, Macs etc); same great brands and services with faster access to information / buying experience. However; the product selection and service options will be limited to the size of the corner store (please disregarding price of course for this example).

With close to three times more mobile devices (6 billion) and almost 2 billion desktop computers; the benefits for choosing the Mobile Website vs “App” development to interface with you mobile customers has become the logical evolution for your OMS – Online Marketing Strategies.

Mobile Websites have immediate ROI and are Cheaper to Develop than Apps
While the strategy of creating an “App” might new customers to your products and services, it may not be the best option, especially for small to medium size B2B businesses. Unfortunately, standard “Apps” needs to be developed for multiple operating systems individually (iPhone, Android, Blackberry etc). Therefore, an “App” which is developed for the iPhone operating system will only work on iPhones, while “Apps” developed for SuperPhones will only run on devices with the Android system. Hence, unless all of your customers are using the same operating system, which is unlikely, you will probably need to develop separate apps for iPhones, Androids, and Blackberry at approximately $30,000.00 per platform.
